Competitive Dance

Making Memories
& Striving for Excellence

Instructors, Jade Murray and Jordyn Shumate, strive to create the most positive and rewarding experience for our dancers. Throughout the season, team members will work to improve technique and performance quality. They will also gain self-confidence and learn to support the successes of others.

Auditions are in the spring after our annual recitals in April and are led by the instructors. We attend three to four competitions each season in addition to our annual recitals. Team members will gain a lifetime of great memories and friendships during their time together.

About the Instructors

In addition to instructing the ABC Dance Team, Jordyn Shumate (left) is a Secretary at the Wells County Probation Department, and one of our recreational dance instructors. Miss Jordyn is a Bluffton native, and has been working at ABC since graduating high school in 2018.

Also a Bluffton native, Jade Murray (right) has a Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting from Purdue University Fort Wayne and works at Ruoff Mortgage as a Senior Accountant. Before becoming an instructor for our competitive team, Miss Jade started working at ABC as a recreational dance instructor in 2018.

Combined, Miss Jordyn & Miss Jade have many years of competitive dance experience in a variety of styles. Although they’ve both been dancing from a very young age, they are dedicated to continuing their dance education to keep their technique and teaching skills sharp.

Under their instruction, the ABC Dance Team has received the following awards:

-“Best Emotional Execution” Precision Arts – Muncie 2023

“Best in Show” Precision Arts – Fort Wayne 2025

-The ADCC “Studio of Excellence” Award for outstanding sportsmanship.

Competitive Team Assistant

Cristin Springer, a student at Norwell High School, has been dancing at ABC Studio & Activity Center since 2017. Since becoming a competitive dancer in 2021, she has trained in a variety of styles. As one of the studio’s most advanced dancers, she excels in styles like tap and clogging on account of her outstanding musicality.

Beyond her skills as a dancer and performer, Cristin has shown a great aptitude for teaching our younger dancers. She is valued for her warm personality, her knowledge of different dance techniques, and her ability to lead.

In September of 2024, Cristin became an assistant to the instructors of the competition team in addition to teaching recreational dance classes of her own.Â
